St
Paul’s First School – Eco-
Committee
Our Eco- Committee was set up in December 2005 to help
us find ways of helping our environment and looking after
the world (click
here for Eco–Schools
website).
There are 11 member of the Eco- Committee. They are
made up as follows;
-
Two teachers
- Two members of the non-teaching Staff
- A Parent Governor
- A pupil representative from each class who has been elected
by their classmates
The Eco-Committee meets on a regular basis.

The first task that we needed to do as a Committee was
to fill in an Environmental Review of the school.
This
was to see what we wee doing well and to see where
we could do more. Each pupil representative chose an
area
to look at with the support of an adult member of the
Committee.
If you would like to see the survey, please click

We then met again to talk about what we had found out.
At our next meeting we will write our Action Plan.
In the meantime we have already started putting
up signs to remind everyone in school of simple
things they can
do to help the environment. We also have an Eco-Committee
noticeboard.
What is our Eco-Committee going to do?
Step 1 Register on-line as an Eco-School
Step 2 Form an Action team and hold the first meeting
of the Eco-Committee.
Step 3 Carry out an Environmental Review of the school.
This is to find out what we are already doing to look
after the environment and to see if there are any areas
where we could do more or do things differently.
Step 4 The Eco- Committee meets again to talk about what
they have found out by doing the Environmental Review.
Step 5 The Eco-Committee meet again to talk about things
that they are going to include in their Action Plan
and to write the Action Plan.
Our Action Plan will tell the rest of the school which
areas we are going to improve and how we are going to
do it. We will share this with the rest of the school
in a special assembly. The whole school can then work
together to achieve the things on our Action Plan.
Step 6 The Eco-Committee will write an Eco-Code to remind
everyone of what the school is trying to do to look
after the environment.
Step 7 Once we have written our Action Plan and Eco-Code,
the Committee will meet once every half term to see
how things are coming along and to discuss any other
ideas that we might have.
Step 8 Once
we have written our Action Plan and Eco-Code and we have
made some progress towards achieving the
things on it, we can apply for the Eco-Schools Bronze
Award and start working to get our Silver award!
